John's Stroke Rehab Fund
Donation protected
John Evetts was admitted to hospital in December 2015 when he showed early signs of a stroke. He received treatment and unfortunately fell into the 5% of people who have a reaction to the drug. He suffered internal bleeding, a brain hemorrhage and consequently a massive stoke that left him with right side paralysis, loss of speech and difficulty swallowing among many other physical challenges.
It was uncertain whether or not he would survive the brain hemorrhage and when he did the prognosis was not good. They expected him to move into a nursing home with little to no recovery. But that wasn’t John’s story. In his eyes we could see his radiant spirit was alive and well, and we knew that he had the desire to recover far beyond their expectations. With support and advocacy from family and friends John fought his way into rehab and after a 6-month hospital stay, he made it home.
We know that John’s belief in the body and mind to heal itself gives him the strength to continue on this journey. Yoga and mindfulness have been a big part of this process from the very start. Even during the first days in hospital when his daughter would whisper positive messages in his ear affirming his strength and resiliency; reminding him that his body had the wisdom to stop the bleeding and heal itself. They would take deep breaths together and he would acknowledge with a nod, showing us he was fully present in the experience.
John lives his life in the spirit of gratitude and generosity. During his working years he modeled his business in a way that provided affordable services to those who needed it and he often volunteered his time and skills to help others. But most of all he brings his light and joy to others helping them find laughter and creating happy moments. We would like to see John continue succeeding in his rehabilitation by offering the gift of possibilities to someone who has given so much of his heart to those around him without ever asking for anything in return.
The money will be used toward physio and occupational therapy, osteopathic treatments, accomodations for an adaptive living space and medication.
