Going to Nationals in NYC
Donation protected
Hello, I am Caitlin "EK" Lewis, a junior at John Paul Stevens High School in San Antonio, Texas.
During the day, I have two art classes that I attend, along with my other core subjects. At night, I go to an after-school art program at Say Sí.
Being an artist is my whole world and I am passionate about my creativity.
My artwork has been on a long journey, and this year, my art teacher, Mrs. Ambra Hernandez, entered a piece of mine into the San Antonio Scholastic art contest.
At the local level, I was awarded a Gold Key and, in February, I was nominated as one of just five students in San Antonio to be An American Visions nominee (Best In Show) from approximately 2,000 entries.
All the Gold Key artwork nationwide, more than 340,000 pieces in all, then was sent to New York City to be adjudicated at the national level. The results came in on March 13 and my artwork was awarded with the American Visions Medalist and a Gold Medal!
This ranked my artwork among the top one percent in the nation and I was invited to attend the awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall and other art events from June 5-8 in New York City.
I would love to be able to attend this event with Mrs. Hernandez, who has guided me through this process during the 2018-19 academic school year.
It is our goal to be able to purchase our flights and hotel rooms by the first week of May.
