Going to Law School to GTFO of Texas
Donation protected
Hi, it's Petra.
This is wildly uncomfortable, but I've been told to get over "short term discomfort for long term joy."
Welp.
As most of you know, I’ve been on my own for—mostly—forever, actually. But since getting divorced in 2020, I've also been a single mom, a full-time employee, a full-time student, and now a soon-to-be law student. After years of surviving, healing, and rebuilding, I’ve been awarded a substantial scholarship to attend law school in Albany, New York this fall.
Finding my calling hasn't been linear. According to the professionals, I've spent years with severe CPTSD, depression, and anxiety. Following in the footsteps of my late mother, I used alcohol to cope, often alone, unsupported, and quietly falling apart. I've since then gotten myself sober and poured everything I had into healing and growth. I went back to school, and in just a week, I’ll be graduating with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Music.
Now I’m preparing to take the next step: moving across the country to pursue a legal education focused on public interest and advocacy. But I’m facing a tough financial gap.
I’ll be working up until the moment I leave, but I won’t receive student loan disbursement until the semester starts. I don’t have a safety net to rely on, and the cost of relocating is more than I can cover alone. I'm asking for support to help with the following estimated and essential moving expenses:
Deposit + First Month’s Rent: $2,100
Travel (3-4 days of gas, food, motel stays with a friendo): $800
U-Haul UBox (TX to NY): $3,228
Loading & Packing in Denton: $200
Containers & Insurance: $200
Movers from UHaul Storage to final apartment in Albany (potentially up three flights of stairs if this place works out): $600
Total Goal: $7,500 (cause also GoFundMe Fees, ew)
Doing this makes me want to throw up, but, short-term discomfort. And anything helps.
If you’ve ever had to start over or fight your way out of something that tried to keep you down, you know the sacrifice that comes with making this change and how meaningful this moment is for me.
Thank you for reading. I'm sorry. Thank you.
You don't have to donate. But omg, what am I doing?
Plz send help.
