Going the Distance for Gabriel

Seis Luces fue desarrollado por Dr. Feinstein y Dra. Zahra con el objetivo de mejorar la vida de nuestros pacientes con leucemia aguda. La misión de Seis Luces es apoyar, alentar e iluminar la vida de los pacientes en sus horas más oscuras. En lugar de enfocarse en la investigación, Seis Luces se dedica a crear experiencias que traen luz a la vida de los pacientes.

El 17 de mayo, Dra. Zahra participará en el Keys 100 Ultra-maratón, una carrera de 100 millas que se extiende desde Key Largo hasta Key West. Será el tercer año consecutivo en que corre esta carrera para recaudar fondos para uno de los pacientes apoyados por nuestra organización.

Nos sentimos honrados de dedicar la carrera y los esfuerzos de recaudación de fondos de este año a Gabriel Hernández Cedeño y su familia. La vida de Gabriel cambió en febrero pasado, cuando fue diagnosticado con leucemia linfoblástica aguda. La noticia trajo incertidumbre y miedo a su joven familia: su amorosa esposa y su pequeño bebé, quienes son su mayor fuente de fuerza y alegría.

Gabriel, un joven lleno de vida y sueños, enfrenta ahora el mayor desafío de su vida. Cada gota de su energía está enfocada en sanar. Sin embargo, el camino hacia la recuperación—aunque lleno de esperanza—le ha impedido trabajar y proveer para su familia. Las facturas médicas, los gastos del hogar y las necesidades básicas de su hijo aumentan cada día, generando una carga financiera en un momento ya de por sí difícil.

Quienes conocen a Gabriel pueden dar fe de su espíritu luchador, su fuerte ética de trabajo y su profundo amor por su familia. Ahora, más que nunca, necesitan nuestra ayuda. Seis Luces, or Six Lights, was developed by Dr. Feinstein and Dr. Zahra to enhance the lives of our acute leukemia patients. The mission of Seis Luces is to support, encourage and brighten the lives of patients during their darkest hours. Instead of focusing on research, Seis Luces is invested in creating experiences that bring light to patients’ lives.

On May 17th, Dr. Zahra will be participating in the Keys 100 ultra-marathon, a 100-mile race stretching between Key Largo and Key West. She will be running this race for the third year in a row to raise money for one of the patients supported by our organization.

We are honored to dedicate this year’s race and fundraising efforts to Gabriel Hernández Cedeño and his family. Gabriel’s life was changed this past February when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The news brought uncertainty and fear to his young family—his loving wife and their little baby—who are his greatest source of strength and joy.

Gabriel, a vibrant young man full of dreams, is now facing the biggest challenge of his life. Every ounce of his energy is focused on healing. However, the road to recovery—though filled with hope—has left him unable to work and provide for his family. Medical bills, household expenses, and the basic needs of his child are growing daily, adding financial strain to an already difficult time.

Those who know Gabriel can attest to his fighting spirit, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family. Now, more than ever, they need our help.
