Going for GOLD in Finland

Hello Family, Friends and Supporters!!

I'm Ta Shaun Leigh, defensive back for the Washington Prodigy of the WNFC.

When I was younger, I never really had something that I wanted to “be when I grow up” .. BUT I’ve always maintained 2 things: I want to be a mommy, and I want to play football.

I literally used to cry because I couldn’t go outside and play football with the boys in my neighborhood (my dad was afraid he was going to have to put his hands on someone else’s child). I even tried to play in high school but the only position they would allow me to play was kicker, and that’s not my cup of tea. So imagine my excitement when I found out there was a WOMENS team in my area looking for players.

For over 6 years now, I have put my mind, body and SOUL into playing football. I've even changed careers to one that would afford me the ability to put more time and energy into football. Football is my passion. I have worked hard, been dedicated, sacrificed my time and body and gave my blood, swear and tears to this sport that I have loved all my life. Now, I have the opportunity to compete at the highest level and to show my talents off to the world.

In March, I traveled to Florida, along with over 250 other women, to try-out for the U.S. Women's National Tackle Football team. In April, I received word that I was selected to the exclusive and competitive 45-player roster. WHAT AN HONOR!!

As part of the US Women’s National Tackle Football team , we will be competing in Finland at IFAF's Women's World Championship in Vantaa, Finland. Every four years, football teams from all over the world convene to compete. It's the Olympics of women's football and we are going for GOLD.

I am beyond estatic to have been chosen for this honor! However, I need your assistance to help my fulfill this dream. Unfortunately, even though I love this game as much as any man that plays it, women's football is a pay-to-play sport, and as member of the national team this still holds true.

There is a huge time and financial commitment in order to compete.

The time commitment for the National Team is July 21st - August 8th.

The fees covers:

- Flight to training camp in Canton, OH

- Flight to and from Finland

- Flight back home

- All ground transportation once I arrive at training camp

- Meals and Lodging for 19 days

- Game Day Uniform, Apparel, and Helmet

A large portion of my fees have already been paid. However, I REALLY need your help to put me over the top. I THANK each and every one of you in advance whatever you can donate. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I'm soooooo excited.
