GOING FOR BALD - Jinsy’s Journey

Hello, my name is Janet and I am fundraising for my friend and colleague Jinsy by having my head shaved. Jinsy has dedicated the last 22 years of her life working as a Nurse, 9 of these in the NHS. Earlier this year Jinsy was diagnosed with Stage 3 Advanced Bowel cancer which has spread to her lymph node and lymphatic vessels. She had a major operation in May 2022 to remove the tumour and she is now living with a permanent colostomy bag. Following this Jinsy had further operations in May 2022 due to complications associated with her surgery.

Jinsy is now having intensive chemotherapy to prevent the recurrence of cancer which will hopefully finish in February 2023 depending on her health and blood results. Following this Jinsy will need to have further surgery called Total Proctocolectomy as there are still cancer cells in her bowel.

This has come as huge shock to Jinsy and her family. Alongside the physical and emotional burden of living with cancer, Jinsy also faces increasing financial pressures as she was the main earning member of her family. Jinsy’s sick pay reduced in August which will place a huge financial pressure on her and her family.

Jinsy not only faces the uncertainty of living with cancer, but she also has the worry of supporting her family through what is predicted to be the toughest winter for many households due to the current cost of living crisis.
