Going Extra for “The Extraordinary Alex”
Hi, my name is Alaina and I am fundraising for my dear friend’s family. One of their sons, Alex, is once again having medical challenges and will need to travel to find the best care and hopefully treatment for his current medical condition. The funds raised will be used to help pay for travel expenses, medical cost, cover loss of income, etc. Please consider donating to help this amazing family!
Alex, eleven years old, has endured 27 brain surgeries and a spinal fusion surgery. Last week they went for some scans because of some symptoms he was having: increases in pressure headaches, fatigue, and major mood swings/irritability. These were a sign that something was not quite right but the results from the scans were not what they had hoped/were expecting. The results and explanation from the doctors were that Alex’s ventricles were either completely collapsed or so slit that putting in a new shunt wouldn’t even be possible and that his Chiari is activated again (meaning his cerebral tonsils are down in his spinal canal). He is at risk for a bleed, seizures, and more. The best the doctors here could offer is to send him home and make him “comfortable” as symptoms increase and ultimately more horrific ones start up. This was not an acceptable option and the family has reached out to other specialist and will be traveling from New York down to Pennsylvania this week. They are unsure how long Alex and Ashley will be down in Pennsylvania but are preparing for it to be a long trip. Claire and Exzavier will be home with Dominic and Anthony keeping things somewhat in routine and normal for them during this difficult time.
Every donation of any amount is helpful!
Thank you!
