Meghann Walsh is the strongest person that I know and have ever met. I will fight anyone who challenges me on that. In December 2023, Meghann was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer – a diagnosis that turned her world upside down. Over the next eight months, she endured intense chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and complications that would test anyone’s spirit. That was last summer, and instead of going on vacation to the beach, we spent multiple weekends at the ER.
This year, Meghann is cancer-free, but the journey left scars that go far beyond the physical pain she endured. She’s faced a rare microbacterium infection in her right implant, resulting in two additional surgeries and the loss of her right breast. In November 2024, Meghann began IV antibiotics that lasted close to eight months. That’s right – every day at 1 pm, Nurse Steve administered IV meds to Meghann.
Meghann is now awaiting two more reconstructive surgeries, which she plans to have at a private hospital if financially possible. She loves and supports the Pittsburgh medical system, but her surgery experience was not a good one, and she wants to find the right surgeon to ensure she gets the reconstruction she needs. However, no surgery can be done until Meghann is cleared of the microbacterium infection. She continues to live with only one breast, carrying the emotional and physical weight of everything she’s endured.
The financial toll has been crushing. Meghann hasn’t been able to work for over 18 months, and disability and medical assistance have been slow and extremely frustrating. She’s exhausted her savings, retirement funds, and every resource she could find just to keep going. I’ve been working as a freelance video editor, but caring for Meghann limits my work hours, and sadly, the bills don't stop.
We’ve leaned on family and friends, and even held a fundraiser in 2024, called MeggsFest, which helped get Meghann through that year. But the reality is that the ongoing costs of treatment, living expenses, and everyday needs have far outpaced what we could raise. Our family has helped where they could, but no one in our circle has the means to cover these expenses. We’re now at a point where Meghann is in danger of never catching up, and every single donation could make a life-changing difference. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward:
~ Outstanding medical bills and upcoming surgeries
~ Physical and mental health therapy
~ Living expenses, including housing and utilities
~ Basic necessities so she can focus on healing, not just surviving
Meghann deserves the chance to heal, rebuild, and reclaim her life after this devastating chapter. Your support will give her stability, relief, and the knowledge that she is not alone. Any contribution, big or small, and every share of this campaign helps us fight back against the aftermath of cancer.
Asking for help is something Meghann is never comfortable doing – but I’ve encouraged her to agree to this fundraiser as she continues to fight everything life has thrown at her. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, sharing, and standing with Meghann in this fight.
