This is an unbelievably difficult time for so many people we thank you for supporting us in helping to spread a little bit of joy, distraction and hopefully stress busting during this extraordinary time.
London Ukulele Project's mission is to encourage and facilitate music-making for all, with the aim of building communities and enhancing wellbeing. Through events, donations and grants we raise funds to provide FREE ukulele sets to schools and community organisations to promote well being, build strong relationships and combat loneliness. Thanks to National lottery's Community Fund and our events in 2019, in our first year we have been able to donate over 200 ukuleles to schools and a couple of community groups in London.
We are currently in the process of developing a teachers resource and look to run a number of workshops for primary and secondary school teachers which we are really excited about.
Research has shown that new relationships develop faster and are stronger if they are founded on a shared experience. As a music teacher for the last 7 years I have seen this in action, first hand, with students from 2 to 87 years old! The ukuleles accessibility and the power of music can ignite a sense of passion, purpose and connection into people’s lives.
9 million adults in the U.K. say that they are ‘always’ or ‘often’ lonely.
The issue of loneliness is now recognised as a determinant for poor health. It effects people throughout the whole of their life course. It does not discriminate.
