Greetings to our extended family, community and friends.
We want to share some developments in Michael’s health and explain why we started this GoFundMe.
A couple of years ago, Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. During our most recent visit to the Neurological Parkinson’s specialist, however, we were informed that he is in fact suffering from Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson’s. With the original Parkinson’s diagnosis, we would have had a number of years to try to adjust and heal, even though it’s a degenerative malady with no known allopathic cure. But life expectancy for patients with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s is two to eight years. Nevertheless, we won’t simply accept and buy into this Western diagnosis and prognosis. We are committed to the promise of healing, and we are doing all we can to make it a reality.
It has been difficult for Michael to watch his manual dexterity and cognitive capacity decline and the trembling and shaking set in. When he is dealing with stress and the pressure of multi-tasking, the symptoms become more severe and he feels depletion and fatigue. There has been a significant decrease in memory, motor coordination, and other faculties.
We’re utilizing both traditional and alternative approaches and gaining useful information from research as well as professionals in the field. Michael was accepted for an evaluation at UCSF, and he continues to apply himself to new and old disciplines such as Qi Gong, yoga, walks, weights, acupuncture, craniosacral, and Dale Bredesen’s Recode protocol and dietary guidelines from Bredesen’s book “The End of Alzheimer’s,” which offer some hope.
We anticipate, painfully, that Michael’s medical needs will be very costly. Michael has Kaiser but the alternative and adjunctive modalities have to be paid for out of pocket. In addition, he needs to stop working and take a medical leave. Due to these changes, Michelle is unable to keep up with her normal work schedule.
Many of you have requested that we set up a GoFundMe page and we now see the necessity for it. We hope that those of you who have the ability and motivation to help will donate toward our goal of $83,000. We also appreciate the outpouring of offers from family and friends who are not in a position to assist financially but can provide other, invaluable forms of support.
We are profoundly grateful to you for being part of Michael’s effort to heal. Much love from our hearts to yours.
