Help the Wintermute Family's Fight Against Cancer

Help us support the wonderful and resilient Wintermute Family.

Regina & Brian Wintermute are a kind, loving and giving couple with four awesome kids experiencing the worst three years no one should endure. They are always ready to help others. Now it is our turn to help them.

Bad News & More Bad News

In the spring of  2016, doctors diagnosed Regina with breast cancer. She underwent months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and a full hysterectomy. For almost a year, Regina thought she was cancer free, but in October 2017 doctors found a mass near her heart. Her cancer had metastasized. Regina is now battling stage 4 breast cancer.

Since October of 2017, Regina travels from Dayton to Chicago nearly every other week to receive radiation and chemo treatments at the Cancer Treatment Center of America. She's also been in and out of hospitals here in Dayton for treatments, surgeries, and complications -- too many times to note here in detail.

Due to her treatments and physical state, Regina is unable to work. Which means the family relies solely on Brian's income.

However, in May of 2019, doctors diagnosed Brian with stage 3 kidney cancer. Surgeons removed his left kidney and an eight pound tumor. This left the family on short term disability. The family could not manage its household on disability alone and keep paying the insurance premiums for Regina to continue treatment in Chicago, so Brian went back to work a week early.

Then in December, Brian experienced chest pains while at work. Regina took him to the ER. Surgeons performed triple bypass surgery on December 18, 2019. On Christmas Eve, Brian returned home to recover, but it's going to be a long road back to full health.

They Need Help

Neither Brian nor Regina can work right now; nor for the foreseeable future. On top of all the health issues, the financial burden is overwhelming. They filed bankruptcy several years ago, but new medical bills arrive daily. They scaled back expenses to cover basics, contacted account holders that payments will be late, and as of the end of this month they are unsure how to fund essentials--like food and gas.

I spoke with Regina and Brian before posting this Go Fund Me account to make sure they were comfortable with it. They are proud, honest, hard working people who don't want a hand out. I explained to them there are generous and giving people in the world looking for a tool to help. This account gives them a means to do just that.

Our goal is to raise enough money to pay for the Wintermute's monthly health insurance costs, so both continue receiving medical treatments. We also want to provide them with enough funds to meet their day to day living expenses such as groceries and necessities. And if there's any left over, it'd be great to alleviate some of their medical debts. Our hope is for Regina and Brian to focus on getting well.

Thank you for whatever help you can give,
The Estes Family
