Hello, everyone, my name is Robert Walton. I’ve been living in Kodiak for nearly 30 years. The photo attached to this fund raised was taken while on an Elk hunt 25 years ago. Spectacular place, great opportunity, but several health challenges require me to change my living conditions and location. In my younger years, I was able to care for my needs with very little belongings. I am not able to keep that up any longer.
I am seeking help because I am now 66 years old, broke, and suffering from COPD. I live alone, and the long cold “dug in” winters here are very extreme. My employer sold the business and I am no longer able to do the type of work I was doing. The cost of living (dry goods, medical supplies, seasonal provisions) is quite a bit higher than my social security can cover. I am in need of help, and would appreciate anything you would be willing to share.
I have been a welder, carpenter, electrician, plumber, small equipment operator, dockside ships maintenance engineer, painter, and worn many other hats over the past 45 years. Although my physical concerns (pulmonary issues and moderate frostbite) will keep me from more strenuous labor, I need to move to a warmer climate. I plan to move to Florida, where my family lived until 1970. And I have 2 brothers who still live there.
The COPD was caused by welding Aluminum and some Galvanized irons. These metals are highly toxic, which at the
time I had no idea!
This fund will help me to make a transition that will literally save my life. Any type of bronchial infections or viruses could be difficult to survive, especially here where it’s almost impossible to stay warm
during the frequent winter power outtages.
My funding goal includes travel and transportation expenses, and living expenses for a short time until I can find an inexpensive
smaller RV. I can tow to any state park or sea shore. I will
subsist some with fish.
These expenses are overwhelming on my small SS income of
1080. a month. Of which I have to pay out 400. a month for
Space rent at a RV park here, plus food, etc.
Receiving any help will be greatly appreciated. I need to leave Kodiak before cold weather returns in late August to September, My situation is urgent; I do not have confidence that next winter will be "kind"!
I pray you can help me! I'm afrade I won't be able to leave without
your help!
" Thank You Very Much"!
