Officer Matt Everett needs us

Spalding County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy, Matthew Everett, sustained several injuries, including a broken vertebra, in an accident that occurred early Tuesday morning in Pike County, according to a Spalding County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Wednesday.

Matt, 40 years old and a father of five, was on his way home from work at about 6:35 a.m. Tuesday.  He was not at fault in the accident, and the accident was captured on his in-car camera. In the video, a pickup truck can be seen hydroplaning on the wet roadway, spinning out of control, and crossing into Matt's lane.

Matt's only son, Austin, will be married next Saturday, July 18th in Greensboro, NC.  We are weighing options of how to best get Matt to Greensboro, maybe fly or as last resort by ambulance.

It would be a 7 hour drive if he goes by vehicle.  Kristy, his wife, picked him up from Grady Hospital last night, late.  Kristy says "he’s in so much pain, moving is monumental and he has to sleep straight up for 3-4 months but this is the first step to recovery! It’s a long road and we’re just settling in. Trusting in the Lord always."

Fortunately, Matt's Sheriff's salary will be covered by insurance. However, as anyone that knows Officers of the Law, know that most all have to supplement their income by working after hours at other jobs.  With a large family and a Sheriff's salary, it will be very difficult for the next 4-6 months for Matt financially.

Matt is also an ordained Deacon and very active in his church at Harvest Baptist Tabernacle in Jonesboro, Georgia, where Dr. Joe Arthur pastors.  Every penny you give will go a long way in helping this family get through this trying time.  Brenda & I have been dear friends with them for many years and can vouch for the need.
