Beaux (pronounced Bo) is our 8-year-old, 115 lbs., Great Pyrenes Mountain dog, whom we rescued 7 ½ years ago from Bideawee. He's our world. Beaux has had many medical issues from the time of adoption to now. Beaux is the true definition of a fighter. He was stricken with canine distemper as a puppy and survived but was left with a neurological health disorder. As a result, Beaux suffers from grand mal seizures. His seizures are controlled with daily doses of phenobarbital. Over a month ago, Beaux suffered a slip and fall and as a result, he injured his left hind leg. After a day of limping, we took Beaux to see his veterinarian. X-rays were pulled and bloodwork was ordered. Beaux was diagnosed with cellulitis, seroma, edema, and a bacterial staph infection. His infection was aggressive and rapidly spreading from his left leg to his right leg. Beaux was unable to walk for two weeks while receiving daily treatment at the veterinary hospital. Due to the rapid spread and aggressive nature of his infection, the vet thought it would be best to fight back with the same type of aggressive medical treatment if Beaux stood any chance at beating this infection. During his first nine days of in-house hospital care, Beaux received two different types of antibiotic intravenously and was placed on an IV fluid drip since he wasn't eating. On the eleventh day of treatment, he had a surgical drain put in his left leg to alleviate the massive swelling.
To get around Beaux was transported by gurney and a lifting harness because he had no use of his two hind legs. It was touch and go there for a while. The vet didn’t know if he was going to make it or not. Beaux’s skin began to slough off leaving him with a 7” by 5” open wound on his left leg. At one point Beaux was facing amputation but has since gotten past that medical risk prediction. While Beaux is responding well to his current medical treatment, he's still not out of the woods yet. He's facing a long road to recovery with months of veterinary visits lined up ahead. At some point during his treatment, Beaux will undergo surgery to have the hole in his leg closed up but until then it is still too early to have the surgery perform. Beaux's last complete blood count (CBC) results revealed both his red and white blood cell count are very low, and his body is leaking protein causing anemia.
As one could imagine, over the past month, we have racked up a large amount of debt in providing our beloved Beaux with the proper medical treatment. He has had numerous blood tests, and lab specimens collected to ensure his current course of treatment is still effective. He is currently being treated with two antibiotics, an anti-inflammatory, pain meds, and a probiotic. We've even turned to homeopathic treatments in conjunction with mainstream medical care. We've been treating Beaux's open wound with manuka honey and we've incorporated multivitamins into his daily routine. Since his accident, we’ve had to make a few lifestyle adjustments. A lifting harness and dog ramp had to be purchased to make it easier for him to get around the house, the yard and in and out of the truck for continuous vet visits.
It is with a humble heart that I ask for your monetary donation to help us settle Beaux's accruing medical bills.
My family and I thank you in advance for your generosity.
We LOVE you Beaux Bear!! xoxo
