Help Amelia's Family To Get Her Home
Donation protected
Amelia was born on December 16, 2020. Her mom Kimmie experienced a difficult pregnancy, suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. She vomited nearly every day of her pregnancy and went to the hospital multiple times for IV fluids and medications to hydrate and lessen the vomiting. During the pregnancy, they had genetic testing completed and found out Amelia has Turner's Syndrome. Later, with additional testing she was also diagnosed with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. On top of all of that, they were told she has a heart condition and weren't sure if she would need surgery once born. Kimmie was induced early at 38 weeks and luckily, Amelia did not need heart surgery, but she then spent the first 8 weeks of her life in the NICU at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Amelia had been vomiting and labeled "failure to thrive" but the doctors couldn't figure out why. It wasn't something known to be related to her other conditions. They were able to get it controlled and Amelia came home with mom and dad. When Amelia was 4 months old, she began vomiting blood. She was taken to a local hospital and quickly transferred to CHOP, a two hour drive from home. That was 16 weeks ago. Kimmie is on leave from work but is not sure for how much longer they'll extend her leave. Shane is working for Doordash to make some extra money. They are renters and their landlord is putting the building up for sale. They have insurance to cover Amelia's medical costs but they've had difficulty paying rent and other living costs. Kimmie has stayed with Amelia in the hospital for this entire hospitalization, only visiting home for one weekend. Amelia has gone under anesthesia 4 times for procedures. She has a G tube to help with feedings. She receives PT, OT, and speech therapy. She has multiple specialists and a complex care team at CHOP. Doctors still do not have answers for Amelia and her family. They have been told several times that she would be discharged soon, only to take more steps backwards. They are not sure how much longer she will be hospitalized. They are running out of options and money. The doctors are talking about another surgery. They need your help. They know that the road ahead is not an easy one. They are grateful to have support from friends, family, and others who have been moved by Amelia's story.
