SIS' Back to School Fund

Hello! My name is Sis! I am an Actress, Activist and Sister to the people! As many of you may know, I am a visionary beyond measure: unstoppable in a sense! My love for creativity and collaboration proved itself to be true in this pandemic because I had to challenge myself to find innovative ways to do those things. From 2015-2019 I attended Sam Houston State University to get my BFA in musical theatre. While that was a very liberating time, it was also a very difficult time. I almost made it out with my degree but because of financial instability caused by external factors, I left short of 8 credits. I hopped on a plane and moved to NYC with $20 in my pocket to live my dream of being a Broadway performer without looking back. But here I am, wanting to finish what I started. Finishing this degree would mean alot to me because it’s something I worked very hard for. After Creating and Directing “Our Offering” I truly realized the gifts God had blessed me with and I felt inspired to continue my education. If I‘m able to get this undergraduate degree and finish strong, I could potentially go to Graduate School and get my Masters in Directing! It’s something I have dreamed of for a very long time. A goal for myself is to gain agency and access so that I can create content that better serves underrepresented communities. “To be seen is to matter.” Do I think these institutions are the only thing that would give me that? No. But I do think they sure would help! I understand that seeking higher education to strengthen my already exceptional skills would get me closer to where I want to be!

So for a breakdown of what I am asking for is: help paying for my remaining balance at Sam Houston that is $2,312.92, so that I can get advised for the Spring 2021 semester. A Government 2 credit from Lonestar (a community college) that I need to transfer to SHSU that totals $415.58. Then $6,000 to cover the 12 credit hours that I am missing (two science classes 4ch each, a voice theater course and one voice lesson), the distance learning fee associated that is $101 per credit (I will be online), and the rest will cover tuitions fees and supplies.
