As many of you know, Altadena Heritage was part of a coalition of community organizations that designed and installed the landscaping at Old Marengo Triangle at Woodbury and Marengo. The County agreed to let us improve the Triangle as long as the community continued to maintain it. Well, here we are some 20 years later and Altadena Heritage is still maintaining this little urban forest.
With the help of many of our members, we’ve had several very productive clean up events and the Triangle is looking pretty good! However, it does still get its fair share of illegal dumping and trash. We have some ideas of how to discourage dumping with additional stonework and low native plants. But the big need is a modern irrigation system.
This system would be able to automatically adjust the watering in accordance with the weather, be monitored and adjusted remotely. The existing sprinkler system needs to be modified to use water wise fixtures that are appropriate for these young trees and support new native plants while they establish their root systems.
In order to begin this project, AH is looking to raise $10,000 for a professional irrigation plan and installation. Please help us maintain and enhance this little corner of Altadena for the community.
