Hi, my name is Larry, and I’m writing this on behalf of my beloved wife, Ananda, who is currently fighting a life-threatening illness called Amyloidosis with Multiple Myeloma. A rare blood cancer. She is also in stage 4 heart failure. Currently, she is admitted at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC, in the Cardiac Ward, facing serious complications including her heart failure, extreme fluid retention (edema), and organ strain. On top of that, her current chemo treatment isn't working so they are trying her on a new drug which needs to be monitored in an ICU ward.

On July 9th, Ananda was airlifted from Powell River to Vancouver by BC Air Ambulance because of these complications. I took a commercial flight an hour later to be with her—because I’m not just her husband, I’m also her caregiver, and she needs me by her side during this frightening and uncertain time.

We’re both on long-term disability, and while we do our best to stay afloat, our financial resources are very limited. Ananda had been working part-time before her condition worsened, but sadly had to stop.

We originally thought this hospital stay would be short, but, we're finding out that it will possibly be several more weeks.

A charity called Hope Air kindly helped get me to Vancouver at first—they paid for my flight, gave me Uber and food credits, and covered two weeks of accommodation. We’re incredibly grateful for their support. But weeks have passed, and Ananda’s condition has not improved much—and now the doctors are saying it may be several more weeks before she will be discharged.

Since arriving, I’ve had to move five different times, to multiple hotels, and temporary accommodations. The BC Cancer Lodge has me on a waitlist, I have managed to get a room at the lodge for 5 nights. After this, I still don't have confirmation where im staying next. When I do get a room at the lodge, it costs $55 a night, including meals for caregivers—still a financial stretch for us. But it is very difficult to secure long term lodging there.

On top of that, Ananda would like to pursue holistic treatments and natural medications to support her healing. She and her family have long believed in the value of integrative and holistic medicine, and she wants to give her body the best possible chance. Sadly, these therapies aren’t covered by insurance and can be very expensive—but we want to try everything we can to help her recover.

I am also struggling with my own health challenges, including diabetic neuropathy in my feet (very numb feet), bad knees, and chronic back pain, making it hard to travel to and from the hospital using public transit. Im also recovering from a bloodclot in my intestine from a couple weeks ago and im on blood thinners which is causing bruising. It’s been exhausting emotionally, physically, and logistically to stay by Ananda’s side—but I won’t leave her. She needs me.

We’re asking for support to help:

Cover accommodations while Ananda is in hospital

Pay for transportation and daily meals

Offset the cost of holistic medications and therapies

Make it possible for me to stay by her side throughout this journey
