My name is Travis, and I’m starting this fundraiser for Ann who could really use some support.

Anyone who knows Ann knows that she doesn’t do anything halfway. Unfortunately, that includes injuries.

While previewing the Augusta 70.3 bike course, Ann suffered a severe facial trauma accident that left her with multiple fractures, including bilateral condylar fractures, anterior and posterior maxillary sinus fractures, a right orbital wall fracture, an anterior maxillary fracture, and an anterior mandibular fracture.

She is now facing surgery that will require plates on both sides of her jaw, followed by having her mouth wired shut for approximately 5–6 weeks. During that time, she will be restricted to a strictly smoothie-based diet while she heals.

As difficult as the physical recovery will be, there is also a significant financial burden ahead.

Ann’s insurance leaves her with approximately $9,500 in out-of-pocket medical expenses. Her employer does not provide these benefits. On top of that, once she gets through surgery and recovery, she is facing extensive dental work, including treatment for several damaged teeth. That work is expected to cost an additional $20,000, which her insurance will not cover.

And unfortunately, this isn't Ann's first battle with an injury. Just last year, she broke her collarbone — a bill she had finally finished paying off only two months ago.

She was supposed to be racing Augusta 70.3, but instead she'll be spending that time recovering. Her birthday happens to be just two days after the race, and my hope is to surprise her with this fundraiser on her birthday and remind her that she doesn't have to face this alone.

If you know Ann, you know how incredibly generous she is. She is the person who will stop to help someone else, whether that's pulling someone along on a ride, showing up when someone needs her, or simply being there for people during difficult times. She would never be the person to ask others for help herself.

So now, I'd like to do something for her.

I want to show Ann that she has a strong community of friends, family, and cyclists behind her — a community that won't let her go through this alone.
