GoFundMe for Jay Thompson and Johannah Varland

We in Cal Poly University Communications are asking for your support for our coworker, Jay Thompson.
Jay's wife, Johannah Varland, was diagnosed about three years ago with ovarian cancer.  Sadly, after major surgery and several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Johannah recently passed away. 
This ordeal took its toll on Jay and Joh in many ways over the past three years — including in the costs for treatment. With this fundraiser, we want to alleviate a little of the financial burden Jay faces.
Jay has worked with us in University Communications for several years, after serving as a communicator at Cuesta College. Prior to that, Jay worked for many years as a journalist in San Luis Obispo County — most recently at the Cambrian and the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
Joh retired last year from Cal Poly after 13 years in the Office of Research and Economic Development, as a grants analyst for Cal Poly Corporation Sponsored Programs, supporting the College of Engineering, and  as the contracts analyst for the Grants Development Offices. Joh worked closely with the Aerospace Engineering Department on 11 Cal Poly CubeSat satellite launches.
