Gofundme For Harold Mollin, Dad, Husband, Coach and Friend

Donation protected
Hi, thank you for finding this page to fundraise for Harold Mollin, who is in desperate need of financial assistance after suffering medical problems last week. This campaign will allow family and friends and anyone who has been blessed by this man's force of personality and friendship to send donations and stay updated with his condition.

Why we are Urgently in Need of funds

Harold has been the sole provider for his family for the past 22 years. Without his income, his wife Phen and daughter do not have the means to support his medical treatment. Barrie, his daughter, is the only child, trying to graduate and figure out how she can help support her mum and dad. Too much of a burden for a young student to have to bear. The financial and emotional stress has been unrelenting and overwhelming.

"I’ve done everything I can to find ways to keep him alive, because I can’t bear to lose him — especially not because of money." Barrie Mollin

"At one point, the care team gently asked if we had the funds to continue treatment — and if not, we might have to consider letting him go; that moment shattered me, I don't want to be forced into making life-or-death decisions for the person who has been my best friend since the day I was born — the one who taught me how to be kind, gave me all the love and support a child could ever ask for, and has been the best dad in the world. Please help, we truly need your prayers and any contributions you can spare."

Please pull together as a community of tennis lovers, expats in Thailand, and people of compassion to donate to this man and his family. The medical team at Praram 9 hospital have been very supportive and has done all they can but the cost of the medical expenses has gone beyond a million THB already and still climbing. There is no choice but to move him to a more affordable hospital to reduce the medical expenses.

This is the timeline of events since his admission.

Day 1:
He was admitted with septic shock, heart failure, extremely low blood pressure, and respiratory failure requiring a ventilator. A severe bacterial infection had entered his bloodstream. It was touch-and-go as there was concern that his heart would need machine support, and life-saving interventions were initiated immediately.

Day 2:
He developed a high fever (39°C), along with liver and kidney failure. This weakened his heart, and the doctors put his heart on critical machine assistance. He was placed on 24-hour dialysis to help remove deadly toxins. Lab results later confirmed a serious infection caused by Staphylococcus Aureus, a dangerous bacterium. It was suspected that the infection might have originated near the artificial knee joint that he had required earlier last year.

Day 3:
There were slight signs of improvement in liver and kidney function. He could urinate on his own again, which was a good sign. His heart was still weak, so the care team proposed specialized heart medication. There were also discussions about using IVIG, an expensive treatment to boost the immune system, depending on how his condition progressed. Fluid was drawn from his knee to test for infection. But thankfully, he has recovered sufficiently that we no longer need to consider IVIG as a treatment.

Day 4:
His fever has subsided, and the care team managed to reduce some of the medications used to keep his blood pressure stable. He still requires dialysis and a ventilator to help his breathing. The infection was confirmed to be Staphylococcus aureus, and the team believed it likely began at the site of his knee replacement surgery. The infection was aggressive so, causing severe reactions in his immune system and organs but overall, his condition has stabilised and is slowly improving.

Day 5:
His condition remains steady with gradual improvements. Blood work looks better, and the care team continues to slowly reduce supportive medications. They were still waiting on results to confirm whether the infection began in the knee joint.

Day 6:
More positive signs: dialysis was no longer needed, urine output was normal, and the infection appeared under control, as recent tests didn’t detect new bacterial growth. His condition was stable, and the care team began planning to wean him off additional medications.

Day 7:
He began regaining consciousness, although he was still a bit disoriented. The team planned to fully awaken him and considered removing the ventilator the next day. He remained on heart-support equipment, but we were finally seeing real progress.

Please Help Us Keep Him Alive
A heartfelt plea from his daughter

My father is a fighter. He’s a strong man, and he has given everything he has to take care of this family for over two decades. Now it’s our turn to fight for him.

***To anyone who has read this far— if you’ve ever had the love of a dad, or a parent who stood by you through every moment, you know how deep that bond runs. It’s the kind of love that shapes who you are. The thought of losing that person — the one who held your hand, cheered you on, believed in you even when you didn’t believe in yourself — is suffering I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I’m holding on because I still believe he has more life to live, more love to give, and more memories to make with us. If you’ve ever loved a parent like that, you’ll understand. Most of all, I want him to see me graduate, grow, and chase my dreams — and I know he wants that too.
