This is a secret surprise... it's Ben's birthday on June 7th! He (like so many people) lost his full-time doggy day-care job in march, right after he'd been sidelined with hernia surgery and COVID kicked into gear.
He's been super quarantine-activated, pushing all of his boundaries with live stream creativity including that time he took us to a night at Burning Man through an 8-hour green-screen live shared feed with the Sonic Runway. Or that other time when he clowned his way through with Potato Head and an ice-cream truck. I could go on..
But I can't, because his old (2011?) computer as of today isn't functioning with the things needed to make his streams work with the technology required in our new world of internet artertainment. It's now left to an old webcam and low resolution, and a glitchy foundation as his beloved workhorse laptop is making a slow and sometimes public-facing- in-the-best-mix-ever creep towards it's final sleep. It's dying just as Ben's art is coming the most alive!
I realize that many people are not in a position to give right now, but it seems like a giant pool of people even giving small amounts might be able to pull off my sweet Ben getting a surprise tidal wave of happy-community-friend-family-gooey-greasy-love via some secretly pooled funds for a new computer!
So... if you've ever had the chance to dance to a full throttle Grease set, or witnessed Ben's remarkable spoken word poetry, or felt moved by his hip hop lyrics and beats.. or eaten vegan creamed corn or secret bacon surprises in his commissaries, or just spent time being in the forever warmth and little-kid wonder that is Ben's magical medicine...
he's done so much for so many people (myself included!) that it seemed like maybe this could be a moment for everyone to say "HEY BEN RAMOS, here you are, WE SEE YOU, and it's your birthday and WE LOVE YOU" by helping my incredible, talented (i think brilliant), authentic, loving, inspiring, always-helping-other-people man, finally have a computer that can keep up with him.
Shared benefit: Grease will go to town on some of the most creative, out-of-the-box, hilarious, whimsical, nostalgic, heart-opening and smile inducing DJ sets ever, with the power of the green screen to bring things to the next level! AKA we will get to dance our faces off while Grease shines!
