Hi,
My name is Chelsea Dollar. I am a 24 year old wife and Registered Nurse that was diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid Cancer in 2015.
Many people believe that thyroid cancer is the "good cancer to have" but unfortunatley mine is not. After a 9.5 hour operation in Sept of 2015, MD Anderson was able to remove my thryoid and 120 surrounding lymph nodes. After surgery I was told they removed as much of the cancer as possible.
Being that there is no Chemo or Radiation for my specific type of cancer at this time, I was told surgery and the waiting game are the only options.
It has now been right at a year and my cancer tumor markers have doubled in the last 9 months from a calcitonin level of 282 (normal is zero) to a calcitonin of 528 with 3 cancerous lymph nodes that have grown to 1cm in size. This is still a lot better then my 12,492 calcitonin prior to surgery, but these numbers are growing faster then we had hoped and I have been told my options are to sit and wait another 6 months because there is no chemo or radiation to treat it and 1 cm is too small for another surgery right now. At this time I am scheduled to go back to MD Anderson in Feburary 2017 to repeat labs and see how much my cancer has grown in 6 months.
So the question is what am I going to do with this Go Fund Me money?
I would like the chance to get involved in immunotherapy and engaging in a more holistic approach while waiting these next six months. I am too aggressive and proactive to sit back and wait, allowing cancer to just grow in my body; I know there has to be more that I can do.
I have looked into several clinics in which provide special programs that work to strengthen and repair the immune system by rebalancing and normalizing the bodies metabolism. Through the use of these natural herbs, special diet, vitamins and minerals I hope to slow the aggression of my cancer.
This money will be used for travel and treatment expenses for my immunotherapy.
