Refugee Learning Center Need your Help Friends!
Imagine how the lives of these kids would change if we all gave $10 (the price of 2 coffees)?
Refugee Learning Centre students in Jakarta are struggling to get the basic resources to be able start off the new schooling year.
A new refugee school has just opened near Jakarta. The school so far has more than 100 students from 5-17 years old with ten female teachers. It is non-profit, non-religious, non-political and multi-national and teaches in English.
Most of its students and families have been found to be refugees by the UNHCR but have been told that Australia will not resettle them so they have to stay in Indonesia until another 3rd country or Australia changes its mind. They have been told it could take 5-15 years for this to happen. The refugee community has started the school themselves as they didn’t want the children to miss out on an education. The Refugee Learning Centre was established only 4 months ago and is in urgent need of learning supplies.
There are currently approx 22,000 genuine UNHCR refugees in Indonesia that are stuck there in limbo due to the closing of the Australian borders.
We are gathering funds to buy the teachers the tools they need to teach: teacher resource text books and kits for English, General Science, General Knowledge and Maths for 5 to 16 year olds; a photocopier; and a laptop.
We’re also fundraising for art supplies as it has been shown that art generates a Love of Learning and Creativity and develops a willingness to explore what has not existed before. Art teaches risk taking, learning from one’s mistakes, and being open to other possibilities.
The future of the world lies with its children, let's provide them all the support they need to make the future a better place for all, not just for the privileged few lucky enough to be born in wealthy, safe nations.
