Steve; One Heart Beat At a Time
Donation protected
Hi my name is Cerina Patterson and I am creating this GoFund for my Dad and my Mom. My dad Steve Patterson is having to undergo open heart surgery to repair his mitral valve prolapse in his heart. On September 21st 2023 Steve was rushed to the emergency room after experiencing congestive heart failure. They discovered he had 10 liters of fluid sitting on his chest and lungs and was in full AFIB. He is fighting for his life and was told that his heart was only functioning at 30% capacity resulting in his heart becoming enlarged. He was admitted to the hospital and soon after transported to San Francisco Kaiser cardiac unit where they did multiple procedures on him. One procedure that was performed included Steve getting his heart shocked to try and help regulate his heartbeat. Steve’s family is by his side and completely heartbroken after hearing the news of his upcoming open heart surgery. During the surgery they will be replacing his mitral valve which is damaged due to a genetic mutation. They will also be doing a second procedure on him during the surgery called a maze which will help keep his heart in a normal rhythm. At this time his heart is not strong enough to go through the surgery and we have to wait 5 weeks until his heart is strong enough to go under for the procedure. He will be in the hospital for quite sometime and the recovery will be long process. Steve is extremely fatigued and weak due to his heart malfunctioning and will need someone to stay with him on the clock until he recovers fully. After the procedure Steve will be admitted in the hospital for a minimum of 7 days and more if needed. He will not be able to work for a while after the procedure due to the months of recovery to come. With God all things are possible and we know our faith will get us through this very difficult time. We are grateful and truly appreciate all of the prayers and support during this journey.
with love, the Patterson family.
