Fogo Na Roupa Grupo Carnavalesco is a renowned Brazilian Carnaval dance and percussion group and performing company founded by the late Mestre Carlos Aceituno. In 2019 Fogo Na Roupa celebrates 30 years of dance, music and community.
Programs: Our Sparks of Fogo Youth Program provides Afro-Brazilian dance and drum classes to Oakland and San Francisco youth, funded by donations and run by volunteers. Additionally, Fogo Na Roupa provides ongoing community classes at the Mission Cultural Center. Each year, the youth and community programs prepare together for the annual Carnaval San Francisco Festival and Parade, bringing together approximately 200 carnavalescos from the Bay Area.
Goal: Raise $3,000 in funds to cover the general costs of participating in San Francisco's Annual Carnaval Parade and offer Oakland and San Francisco youth FREE Carnaval programming and costumes.
Impact: Fogo Na Roupa's programming is structured to develop confidence, discipline, and cultural consciousness youth and adults alike through teachings of folklore, creative expression, and the origins of rhythms and dances. Our program has the impact of not only teaching an art, but fostering a strong sense of self and community.
Donations: With fiscal sponsorship from partnering non-profit Youth Matters, Inc., a Bay Area non-profit organization for youth development, any donations made to Fogo na Roupa can be tax deductible.
