Garison is a very happy 5 year old boy!! He loves music, legos, school, and being a wild, active boy with his twin brother Hayden! In the summer of 2013 Garison started forgetting how to do routine things like putting on his shoes and getting dressed. He was also forgetting important things but there was no pattern to what he could remember. I thought he was being lazy and just a normal 4 year old, but the forgetfulness continued and I got concerned. We got a referral to a neurologist and after some testing we were told that our sweet little boy had epilepsy and would need to take medication everyday, possibly for life. We were devistated. We tried 3 different medications but none of them controlled the seizures.
So, after trying those 3 medications, we decided to get a second opinion from a pediatric neurologist who came to Billings from Primary Childrens hospital in Salt Lake City. We knew that with failing 3 medications we probably had very little chance of getting his seizures under control with medication. The pediatric neurologist said that the best chance for him to be seizure free was to have brain surgery to remove the small portion of his brain that is causing the seizures. We decided that we want the best chance for him to have a normal and healthy life. The first step to surgery is getting a whole gammet of testing done on his brain to even see if he is a candidate. The kicker is that none of this testing is available in the state of Montana so we are heading to Salt Lake City soon for an 5-10 inpatient stay at Primary Childrens Hospital.
