There are moments in life when art is not just something we create, it becomes something we need in order to process, to belong, to remember who we are.
This installation was born from one of those moments. My name is Maira, and I am an immigrant, an artist, and a storyteller. My work lives at the intersection of memory, body, and spirit where healing is not separate from creativity, and where expression becomes a bridge back to ourselves.
I am currently building an immersive art installation: a spiral you can walk through.
A journey.
A return.
This piece is inspired by the experience of migration not only across countries, but across identities, grief, and becoming.
What does it mean to leave one version of yourself behind? What does it mean to arrive somewhere new… and still be carrying everything?
The spiral invites you into these questions.
As you walk through it, you will encounter paintings, poems, and sculptural elements that speak to:
- being held by community
- remembering ancestral wisdom
- reclaiming the body after survival
- listening to the voice within
- & ultimately, returning home to yourself
At the center, there is a moment of stillness, a place to land, to feel, to breathe.
And a final invitation:
Set the versions of yourself free.
This installation has already been accepted into small community festivals, and I have begun building parts of it with my own hands and resources.
But to truly bring this vision to life... to build the tent, complete the sculptures, paint the environment, and create an experience that can hold others with care I need support.
Your contribution will go toward:
- Materials for the structure and installation (wood, fabric, flooring)
- Painting supplies and sculptural materials
- Transportation and setup for festivals
- Creating take-home pieces so visitors can carry the experience with them
This is not just an art piece. And I hope this is more than my life too.
I hope this is a space for people to feel seen without needing to explain themselves.
A space where art meets ritual.
A space where strangers remember they belong to themselves, to each other, to something greater.
If this speaks to you if you believe in art as a form of healing, as a form of connection, as a form of home... I would be deeply honored to have your support.
And if you cannot donate, sharing this with someone who might feel moved by it is just as meaningful.
Thank you for seeing me.
Thank you for helping me build this.
Com Amor,
Maira (an artist made in Brasil)
