I’m raising support for Hagar, the first documentary in my Cinema Divina series. This film began with a frustration I couldn’t shake: why is Hagar’s story so often redirected back to Abraham? Hagar was never a side character. She has always felt like a main character to me, someone whose story carries pain, courage, exile, and revelation. She is used, mistreated, displaced, and sent into the wilderness, and there she does something extraordinary: she names God, El Roi, the God who sees me. For me, this documentary is about more than an ancient biblical woman. It is also about every woman who has been used, cast out, overlooked, or made to feel invisible, and the radical hope of discovering that God sees her.
Your support will help me complete this next critical stage of production and move Cinema Divina forward. Funds will help cover travel for scholar interviews, our Oklahoma wilderness shoot to cinematically depict Hagar’s exile and encounter with El Roi, the required production insurance we need before we can secure our filming permit, and meals and production needs for our volunteer actors and crew. I’ll be traveling from North Carolina to Oklahoma in our family RV to keep costs down, and we are stretching every dollar because I believe this story deserves to be told with care and beauty. Please help if you can by giving, sharing this campaign, and praying for the journey. Your support helps put Hagar back at the center of her own story and helps launch Cinema Divina, a series devoted to seeing other women in Scripture more clearly.
