Organized by Mari Reyes on behalf of
Carlos and Laurie Reyes:
"In October of 2018, we discovered that we'd be adding another baby to our family and on Valentine's Day we got the news that our little one, Lucas, has a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).
In babies with CDH, when the diaphragm was forming, it did not form completely, leaving a hole. That hole, then allows abdominal organs to move into the chest cavity, shifting the heart and inhibiting lung development. In our son's case, his stomach, spleen, bowel and a portion of his liver are in his chest. We know that he will need special care during and after his birth. With the Lord's guidance, we have chosen to relocate temporarily to St. Petersburg so that our son can be treated by Dr. David Kays and the CDH team at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Lucas will require surgery to repair his hernia, and put all of his organs back where they belong. His surgeons estimate that he will require a NICU stay of about 4-6 weeks after his repair.
Hearing the diagnosis brought all kinds of fear and uncertainty but through it all we have seen God move. He has provided, answered prayers and given us peace. The Lord has blessed us with this child, and we have chosen to trust Him with his healing and life. We appreciate your prayers for Lucas and our family. We are thankful for friends and family near and far who have surrounded us in love. Thank you in advance to anyone who feels led to give financially to cover the cost of prenatal and postnatal medical expenses for Lucas."
With love,
The Reyes Family

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:9
" 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" - Jeremiah 29:11
