God Bless Todd (and the Dog)

Todd was diagnosed with more throat cancer on the other side of his throat in Jan. 2023. He continues to struggle with the side effects of his first cancer treatment.

Many of us know Todd Smith's saga. As a young adult he was an addict and eventually, through AA became sober and has been so for decades. Many of us know him through Springcreek Community Church in Garland, Texas where he's attended since the 90's helped many others connect with Christ. Others know him through his work saving dogs from abuse and neglect by starting God Bless the Dog. Dealing with local authorities, dog owners, fosters, and adopters requires a lot of coordination, and Todd learned as he went. Along the way, he's saved or helped save 100's of dogs. Many of us have helped him with contributions. Others of you are friends in some other way.

Now he personally needs our help. Many of you know that about 4 months ago he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Throat cancer is very difficult to treat and cure. While Todd was optimistic, the surgery, treatment and resulting outcomes did not match. He required extensive surgery and radiation to treat the cancer - both of which pose a significant risk for lipidemia and trismus (lockjaw) - which he has. In addition, he has a small hole in his palate and a fistula, and neither can be repaired while he has trismus. He has physical therapy for trismus several times a week and is in a lot of pain. He cannot open his mouth more than 1/2", cannot chew food, is down to 135 lbs and will have a feeding tube inserted next week. That will help sustain him while they treat the trismus so they can address the palate and fistula.

Just like many of the dogs that Todd (and we through Todd) have nursed back to health and saved and are now living the life they are meant to live, it's time for us to step up and get Todd back to his intended life. His wife Kim is their only provider now, and she's working full-time. He's lost so much weight he recently went to Goodwill for clothes. There are more expenses in front of them. Please give freely!
