I need help to go to the Olympics.
I am the number one canoe athlete in the USA and I placed 10th at the World Championships this last year. If I place top two at the Pan American Olympic qualifying race in April I will be going to the Olympic games in Paris; this will not happen without sufficient funding.
While high-level athletes in other countries receive substantial backing from their government or sponsors, smaller sports in the U.S. lack robust financial support. Support for American athletes in smaller disciplines usualy comes out of pocket and hinders athletes from allocating their time and resources to effective training. My training consists of 4 hours in the canoe each day along with strength training in the gym, and I work at a coffee shop in Seattle to help pay the bills.
I am seeking support in my pursuit of representing the United States in the upcoming Olympics in the sport of Sprint Canoe/Kayak. My total financial expenses for training and competing to make these Olympics is $21,178. Here is a basic cost break down:
1. Training Expenses:
● Coaching fees: $400
● Equipment expenses: $500
● Facility usage fees: $400
● Nutrition/ food: $4500
● Housing: $6798
2. Travel Costs:
● Training transport: $150
● Training camp housing: $4000
● Competition Travel: $1900
3. Competition Fees:
● Registration fees : $2250
● Membership fees: $80
● Miscellaneous expenses: $200
Your contribution is a tangible solution that will directly impact my ability to focus on the rigorous preparation required for the Pan American Olympic qualifying race in April.
