Go to Bat for Billie

Billie Batz is a hard working, self-employed wife and mother of three very active boys ages 7, 14 and 16. She recently received one of the worst medical diagnoses of her life, cancer. Billie has stage 3 - HER2 breast cancer, having four tumors in one breast and her lymph nodes are also affected.

Billie will have 8 chemotherapy treatments starting Sept 11th, each two weeks apart, followed by the surgical removal of the cancerous tumors and 25 radiation treatments given daily over 5 weeks. The hospital where she is to receive these treatments is in Barrie, a 40-minute drive each way from her home. In total, Billie will be unable to work for at least 7 months.

Chemotherapy presents many challenges and side effects. During the course of her treatment she will experience nausea, fatigue and her immune system will be compromised. Combined with the ongoing effort to remain positive, the process can be quite overwhelming. She also has a young family to continue to care for and the loss of income from her self-employed job will cause added anxiety.
