Hi everyone!
As many of you know my dad Gord is in a long term care home after being diagnosed with brain injury years ago … on top of his very serious mental health issues.
He has been living in the long term care home for many years now and it’s an amazing place for him.
Before his brain injury my dad was already very deaf and had hearing aids for many years of my life and then got stubborn and just had people yell at him!
His hearing has significantly declined in the last couple years. It has got to the point where he has no hearing in one ear and the other is at bare minimum. This can make life very challenging for him. He is starting to feel secluded as he’s having major issues participating in conversations and activities.
We do all I can to help and support my dad. My mom and family has been an amazing help but bills pile up and the more issues he has the more money needed for things to help him with those issues.
His new hearing aids are going to cost out of pocket around $4000 (yes this is after what is covered …. $500per ear per year ….. $1000 total per year). The hearing aid peeps have done all they can to help me out and bring the price down as much as they can. (Yes they have payment plan options but unfortunately they are also very high and out of budget.)
So after many years of barely making ends meet taking care of dad we are asking for help.
We want the best for him but it’s getting difficult for me to provide that.
I know many of you know and love Gordy and anything would help! My goal is to get his hearing aids fully paid off and to get him a light weight dresser, something to organize all of his cds and dvds and tv stand and some other stuff to make his room feel more like home (he moved room to room for the last few years and is finally in the room he will be staying in!) I will also use any extra money to get him new clothes, some snacks and lots of toiletries as he constantly needs all those things.
I am doing what I think is right in asking for help. We unfortunately just can’t keep up with it anymore and need a little help.
Thank you in advance to anyone and everyone who helps not only dad out but also helps me be able to catch up and still get him what he needs and deserves. Gordy/Dad/Pops deserves the best. That’s what I want to give him.
On a little side note: I am always looking for dvds and cds for dad as that’s how he likes to pass his time.
