On February 5, 2024, after 8 years of remission, Lucas has once again, for the 3rd time in his 20 year old life, been diagnosed with cancer. This time it is Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma, more commonly known as bone cancer. He is now wheelchair bound due to a very large tumor in his pelvis, groin and femur. Lucas was admitted to Children's Hospital on February 15th and started his first round of high dose chemo. Lucas's initial treatment plan was to get 12 weeks of high dose chemo, radiation and surgery then more chemo and radiation. Today there was devastating news delivered to Lucas and his family regarding Lucas's treatment plan. They will now have to to remove his right hip, pelvis and leg. I am reaching out to everyone to please donate to help Lucas and his family to help with medical bills and medical needs.
Lucas and his family began this fight when Lucas was just 7 years old, in January of 2011. He was diagnosed with Acute Pre-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Treatment was lots of different types of chemo both inpatient and outpatient. He went into remission on June 24, 2015, but remission would not last long though and on August 15, 2015, Lucas was diagnosed again with the same cancer. This time the disease was resistant to treatment and Lucas was flow to NYC Sloan Kettering for an experimental Car T Cell extraction, full body radiation and more chemo then a bone marrow transplant. On February 4, 2016, his sister, Michelle, who was a 10/10 match, donated the gift of her bone marrow without hesitation at all. Treatment for this required 100 percent isolation and was done in the Ronald McDonald House and remission was once again achieved. GVHD from the transplant became a risk and they had to travel to NIH in Maryland for evaluation and treatment with an experimental drug. Lucas was Leukemia free for 8 years and let me tell you in those 8 years he was able to live somewhat of a normal life, if there is such a thing for a person who has battled cancer and survived it. It was nice to see him out and about at our town's cruise nights or stopping over to sit on my front porch and just being a kid. He went to prom, graduated high school, got his permit and had a job, but all that changed when he started not feeling well again. I am asking that this be shared all over to help give this family, who has already gone through so much over the years, the financial support they need and will continue to need during and after treatment.
