Go Gold for Giancarlo!

Hello! My name is Maria Russo and I am fundraising for one of my kindergarten students, Giancarlo Valencia Montealegre at BVP ES1. Gianny is a 5 year old superhero who shows an incredible amount of strength and a joy for learning all while fighting against leukemia. How incredible is that?

To show our support for Gianny as he celebrates 1 year of bravery and resilience in his fight against cancer, BVP is hosting a dress down fundraiser! Please wear gold/yellow on October 1st and consider donating to support Gianny and his family!

Here is a little more about Giancarlo and his bravery:

On October 1, 2020, Giancarlo's mom and dad received the news that every parent fears- "Your child has cancer." At the young age of 4, Gianny was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It is defined as a cancer of the blood and bone marrow and causes symptoms such as bone pain, weakness, shortness of breath, and frequent infections. After Gianny's diagnosis, he spent one month in the hospital receiving chemotherapy and began his 2 year journey of treatment. He has since been in and out of the hospital, undergoing procedures and receiving treatments to save his life. As you can imagine, there have been some very hard days for Gianny and his family.

Through it all, Gianny has been a rockstar! At home, mom describes him as a typical boy who loves baseball, soccer, race cars, video games, and superheroes like Black Panther, Flash, and Batman! He also adores playing with his older sister and brother. At school, Gianny works hard on a daily basis, even making up his work while receiving chemo. He is learning his letters and numbers, and sharing all his smart ideas, just like every 5 year old! He smiles and never complains!
