Support Tree Planting at Chiques Creek Farm
Chiques Creek Farm is a small up-and-coming regenerative farm in Lancaster County, PA working to restore ecosystems, build soil health, and grow food in a way that supports both people and the planet. This spring, we planned and are executing a major tree planting as part of a USDA-funded Climate Smart Commodities Grant through PASA (Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture)—focused on tree planting.
Before the new federal administration, we had been awarded a $20,000 grant to cover:
- $15,000 for fencing
- $5,000 for fruit, nut, and forage trees
Due to recent federal budget cuts through DOGE, the funding was pulled before any money was released—even though many trees had already been ordered and the project was on its way. We’re covering the cost ourselves and raising funds to make sure the planting happens and continues to happen in the future!
What the Funds Will Support
We’re aiming to raise $5,000 to directly cover the cost of trees purchased for this season and can potentially fund future tree plantings. These trees will:
- Sequester carbon and improve soil
- Provide shade and forage for chickens, pigs, and turkeys
- Support pollinators and wildlife
- Produce long-term food crops
The Climate Connection
Each tree planted on the farm stores carbon over time. For perspective:
A round-trip flight from Philadelphia to Paris produces about 1.6 metric tons of CO₂.
It takes about 4 trees to offset that over their lifetime. Each tree costs around $10-$15. That is about $50 of direct tree carbon offsets for your flight.
Your support helps us put real trees in the ground that offer measurable climate benefits, support future food production, and contribute to an ongoing regenerative land project.
