GO FUND THE SISTERHOOD TO THE ISLE OF MULL

An exciting opportunity to support a ground-breaking theatrical experience, The Immortal Sisterhood Live.

Have a look at our website: The Immortal Sisterhood Live

Birthed in Scotland, this ninety-minute performance beautifully blends history, music, storytelling, and poetics.

If you were to create the modern, intersectional, feminist STOMP then sprinkle the verve of the Velvet Underground, add the frequencies of a Laurie Anderson performance, the depth and ambition of an early Philip Glass opera and the visuals of your favourite magazine... You might get to The Immortal Sisterhood LIVE.

Our project, developed through dedicated workshops in Edinburgh and at the renowned Cove Park in Argyll & Bute, features a diverse cast of five talented performers. Inspired by the book The Immortal Sisterhood by Gemma Cairney (which will be published by Canongate in 2026), which explores profound connections with twelve remarkable women from history, our live performance celebrates these women collaboratively.

Why this? Why now?

There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.

I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge—even wisdom. Like art.

Our Vision and Why We Need Your Support

We seek funding for the next phase of our project.

Having premiered a knock-out show at The Lincoln Center in New York City, in front of a full house in January of this year, we are fundraising for our Scottish premiere to happen on the Isle Of Mull at Antobar in Tobermory on Friday 1st August.

Our time on the island will include a crucial next phase of rehearsals for the Internationally based ensemble and further development on the immersive film work that is projected instead of physical set.

Your generous support will help us bring this unique celebration of womxn's history and achievements to a wider global audience, demonstrating the power of unique storytelling, collaboration, and interdisciplinary arts emerging from our rich heritage.

Project Overview

The Immortal Sisterhood Live is a 90-minute theatrical experience that weaves together history, music, storytelling, and poetics. This performance is a tapestry of expression in sound, operatic scores and entwines ancient symbolism, percussion, vocals, experimental live cello with a connection to nature and reverence to the women who have inspired and informed our own work. From Audre Lorde to Grace Jones we thank them with arias and movement pieces.....Embodied thanks.

Project Activities

Our cast of five multidisciplinary artists will explore themes of agency, ancestry, and feminist devotion. By translating research and essays from the literary page into a live performance, we aim to create a show that embodies reverence for the women we honour.

The audience will engage with historical figures on a sensory level through multicultural practices, arias, soundscapes, dance, and visually striking altars and abstract // quantum reclamation. This immersive experience promotes the idea that sisterhood transcends boundaries, manifesting in music, colour, tech innovation and sonic brilliance.

Goals and Contributions

Our aim is to celebrate the greatness of past women while embracing the ambiguity of the present moment.

Our show will celebrate diversity, inclusion, and equality, providing a safe and fair space for BPOC, LGBTQ+, working-class, and often marginalised creatives and practitioners. Notably, 90% of our team are BPOC. By creating this performance, we hope to elevate the visibility of underrepresented voices in the arts and contribute to a richer, more inclusive cultural landscape.

Environmental Considerations

We are committed to mitigating our carbon footprint. For the necessary US flights, we will offset carbon emissions with a Woodland Carbon Code Unit. We will use public train and bus travel within the UK and US whenever possible. Our set design and costumes incorporate found and recycled materials to further minimise our environmental impact.

Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion

Our project team represents a broad demographic, with a majority of women and non-binary members, and a significant portion being BPOC. It is fundamental to us to ensure that the project celebrates diversity, inclusion, and equality. Invited cast, crew, and creatives come from diverse backgrounds, ensuring a wide range of perspectives and experiences are represented.
