My family and I live in Alabama, and this week has been especially tough. There are three of us in our household—my husband, our teenage son, and myself. We live in an apartment complex, and while we hope to become homeowners one day, our rent keeps rising. We expect it to rise again next year, but for now, our immediate concern is groceries.

Last month hit us hard, especially with medical bills. I cracked a tooth and needed emergency dental care. Even though I have dental insurance, the deductible is more than I can pay right now. I’m making payment arrangements, but until then, we’re struggling to cover basic needs. Gas prices in our city are high, and I know it’s tough everywhere. We try to live within our means, shopping at Dollar Tree or Aldi’s for the best deals, and we’re happy being frugal. But this week, we need a little extra help to get by until the next paycheck.
