No Rush is so much more than a 36’ catamaran that has led countless tourists to fall in love with the Caribbean. It’s the livelihood for myself and my family of four. At age 21, I invested in the nondescript, wooden vessel that I turned into No Rush and, over the past 18 years, has become an iconic piece of the San Pedro landscape.
No, it’s not a luxury yacht, but I have created a space on the water far more intriguing than any cat with a main cabin and limited deck seating. I created an open space, with a canopy for shade, for my guests to connect, to communicate, to move around and visit with one another openly, and freely. That, coupled with my knowledge of sailing, fishing, the vast, beautiful reef system, allows me to provide you an experience like none other.
Here’s the thing—if you are familiar with sailing, or boating in general, then you understand the amount of maintenance that a boat requires. One of the things that makes a tour on No Rush so different than most catamarans is it has a wooden hull, rather than a fiberglass one. This makes it lighter, more stable and more comfortable for you. Every two years, I have to take my boat out of the water to replace the rotting wood, the torn sails, repaint the entire boat and all of the other necessary details so that I can continue to keep No Rush afloat.
When the Belize borders closed abruptly last March, I, like everyone in tourism, lost the ability to earn income. I have been doing some fishing, but unfortunately, it’s barely enough to get by.
I have chosen to live a humble life on the lagoon. I live to provide for my family through my passion—sailing. So that I can keep my business in operation, I would like to ask that you consider making a donation toward the repair, and the legacy, of the No Rush experience. In the 18 years that I’ve Captained No Rush, it has been an honor to provide a true Caribbean experience-on-the-sea for all who have had the opportunity to join me on board.
I am gratefully appreciative of anything you’re able to offer. Anything helps. I look forward to sailing with you soon. Arrrrrr.
And as a thank you for your generosity, I have partnered with internationally renowned artist, Margaret Hulse of Mpulse Studio, and will gift you with an original piece of art, painted on a sail from my boat, from her Nautical Bohemia Collection.
With gratitude,
Stephen Rubio
