Hello, my name is Sophie, and this fundraiser is for my mum, Meg Langley.

You may or may not know us, but we're from Bairnsdale, I am a high school student and mum is a primary school teacher. She has been battling arthritis for many years and has had to pay thousands of dollars worth of medical costs while also having time off work due to procedures. Right now, mum is in a rehabilitation centre recovering from her third hip replacement, and I am asking for your help towards the costs of her medical expenses so that she can be a little less worried about money at a time when she needs to focus on getting well.

Mum suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune and inflammatory disease. Her immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells, causing inflammation and painful swelling. This is a chronic illness, so she will always be dealing with this, but recently, it has caused some significant problems.

Rheumatoid arthritis can also cause bone erosion and joint deformity; this resulted in both of mum's hips being eroded to the point where they needed replacement. She had the right one done twice and is currently in rehabilitation for her left. She is now waiting on the results to find out about recently discovered damage to her L5, causing significant pain in her leg.

She has had to pay for countless scans leading up to the replacements, such as MRIs and x-rays, on top of her surgery costs, all while being unable to work at her job as a primary school teacher. She has no sick leave left and therefore has no income, so the funds raised here will go towards paying off the cost of surgery and medical imaging. Mum is incredibly passionate about teaching and wants nothing more than to make it back to her class. She is working very hard to achieve that goal, but she needs help to get there. I have set a specific goal to cover some of the costs, and any contribution will help us get there. If we can take some of the financial burdens off her, we could all help get her back to where she needs to be, which is in front of a classroom, back to her version of normal.
