- On February 10th our newest granddaughter was born. Complications arose during Karen’s delivery, and after hours of labor, an emergency C-section was performed. Baby Emily was diagnosed with HIE and was transported to Elliot Hospital for their emergency NICU unit. Once there, they cooled her body temperature down to 92.7, in which she stayed at that temperature for 72 hours. As this was going on, Emily’s daddy, Larry’s son Justin, suffered a stroke on Monday the 12th. He was rushed to the hospital and is currently waiting to get transferred to a rehab facility. Both he and Emily are fighters, and the first good news is Emily has passed all her necessary milestones to go home, which may be tomorrow, to finally meet her older sister Julie (18 mos.). Justin on the other hand, has a long battle ahead, which more than likely will take several months of rehab. Although Justin’s employer does have short- and long-term disability, the accruing hospital bills for the both of them is a major stressor for Justin, as it may be many months before/if ever he will be able to return to his current position.
