As many of you already know, Deb is in the midst of a tough battle against a pre-leukemia blood disease that has necessitated a bone marrow transplant at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis. Deb has already been through two rounds of chemotherapy and is facing a third round this November which will set the stage for her transplant. If all goes well, Deb hopes to be back home by Christmastime.
The disease, which had been in remission for several years, forced her to take early retirement from Tazewell County Resource Center where she had worked with disabled adults for many years. Deb has spent her life taking care of others and making sure they have the best quality of life. It was her passion and kept her going for over 30 years. She jokingly says, “ One small detail before I officially retire, a bone marrow transplant on the agenda!“ The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is covering some of her medical bills on a limited basis, but her medical bills continue to mount, along with household and other bills during her lengthy hospital stay and recovery period.
As a longtime friend of Deborah, I am asking for help in raising $10,000 which would go a long way toward helping ease some of her financial difficulties during this difficult period. Thank you so much for any help you might be able to offer. As most of you know, Deb‘s family has a genetic disorder in which they are prone to develop certain types of cancer. Her son Aaron passed away at 21 with colon cancer and her daughter Elizabeth developed colon cancer as well, along with a subsequent brain tumor when she was just 23.
