I don't think an introduction is needed because if you know me, you also know Brille. He has been my ride or die for many years and many miles traveled together. About a month ago, Brille was doing Brille stuff and was going really hard in the paint. So hard that he took a bad spill, crashing into the wall trying to get outside to the backyard. It was fine for the first couple of days, but then I started to notice weakness in his back legs.
Brille went to the vet to see if we could find out what he potentially hurt being the badass that he is. There wasn't much the vet could do but put him on steroids to see if we could get the inflammation to settle. He has been on steroids for three weeks now, and the concerns are still there with his spine or lower back. Brille is able to go on low-impact walks and still be Brille, but he has a lot of limits on what he can do.
After seeing that the damage could be more permanent in Brille's life, I took him to see a neurologist for a more specialized opinion. The short of the story is the only thing left to do is get an MRI to pinpoint exactly what happened to his spine or lower back. But, MRIs are not cheap and will cost upwards of $6,000 to know exactly what is going on with my furry homie.
It is tough to write this and ask for help, but I would not be able to live with myself if I did not try everything possible to get him back to being Brille. Chances are surgery will be needed after the MRI, and costs will be around $10,000 for everything. I know a lot of people will say "it is just a dog," but if you have a dog that is your best friend, you understand why I am holding back tears writing this, reaching out to our community.
Brille is a special soul, and if you have met him, then you understand the weight of me having to do this. I will figure out a way to do all of this even if we get no money from this "GoFundBrille." I will probably have some organs for sale on Marketplace at a reasonable price, or do whatever I need to do. There is only one option, and that is figuring all of this out for Brille and getting him back to being himself.
I am fighting tears back every day watching him struggle to jump on my bed or jump in my truck. There isn't a path where I just accept this is how his remaining years are going to be. He was at the beach 6 weeks ago, running around and jumping, living his best life. Then literally overnight, he is struggling to walk and live a normal life.
If there is money left over and he doesn't need surgery, I will find someone else in a similar situation and donate the leftover funds to them. If we don't get any money, I will figure it out and be thankful for the thoughts and love put in the universe.
P.S. Tell your dog "Hi" for me.
