In May of 2019, my best friend and beautiful Mother Tammie, was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Which is a more rare and an aggressive form of breast cancer. This type of cancer is difficult to treat and can reoccur more frequently then other types of cancer. For those of you that know my Mother Tammie, also known as Grammie, you know that she is an EXTRAORDINARY human being. My Mother always puts God, her family and friends first. She is the most positive, kind, caring, and thoughtful person you will ever meet. My Mother is always encouraging, and will always turn any of life's challenges into something positive. She even bakes a tray of homemade cookies every Christmas, for the employees where she buys her morning breakfast of Diet Coke and Bacon!
Since her diagnosis in May she has had several challenges and delays in getting her surgery scheduled and starting her treatment. On August 8th 2019 she underwent a Partial Mastectomy and reduction. At the time of surgery it was discovered her tumor had doubled in size since May. After this surgery she developed a serious complication, which resulted in a complex wound and infection, which required another procedure. After this procedure she was informed she would need another surgery. On September 3rd she underwent a total Mastectomy. At the time of this surgery it was discovered that the breast tissue had died down to the muscle on the side where the tumor was removed. The surgeon informed us that she has never seen this type of complication happen before.
My Mother will have to wait until the wound heals to begin her four months of Chemotherapy. The surgeon is hopeful the wound will heal, but a skin graft might be necessary.
My family is now asking for help with medical costs, that my Mother has acquired.
She has already paid $12,000 out of pocket this year, and has spent several thousands on copays, wound care supplies, genetic testing etc.
Due to the delay in having her first surgery scheduled and the complications, she will now be into the next calendar year for her insurance deductible and out of pocket expenses, which will be a minimum of another $12,000.
My Mother has given so much to everyone all of her life and we want to give back to her by helping ease her worries about her medical expenses, while she is beating this cancer!
If you can't donate, we ask that you please share, email and spread her story!
Also, please get your Mammograms! My Mom's cancer was diagnosed with a routine Mammogram!
