Go Beatrice! Forza Bibi!

Hello!

We are Minie (mum), Manny (dad), and Beatrice (but you can call me BB!).

I am a very special kid: when I was 8 days old I had an open heart surgery in bypass to fix my little heart (hypoplastic aortic arch, VSD, ASD) and I will have another one in 6-12 months (to fix the pulmonary artery).

I also have Kabuki Syndrome, which means that I will have a different journey from other kids. Most likely I will see many, many different specialists in the course of the next few years; just to name a few: speech therapist, orthopaedist, occupational therapist, endocrinologist, otolaryngologist, physiotherapist, cardiologist, nephrologist.

Not that mum and dad complain! They are super happy to have me and they always say that, together, we are The Invincibles!

But I certainly come with a big baggage: the costs of visits and medical equipment, the time to take care of me (I will be eating through an NG tube for a while), the roller coaster of a more delicate immune system (right now I’m in the hospital with an RSV bronchiolitis) and so on.

We are going to be fine, but if you want you can chip in, to help them a little bit with the financial challenges of our new family.

Don’t you worry: I will make sure that they stay grounded and also active!

Noi siamo Minie (mamma), Manny (papà) e Beatrice (ma voi potete chiamarmi Bibi!).

Sono una bimba molto speciale: quando avevo 8 giorni ho avuto un’operazione a cuore aperto in bypass per sistemare il mio cuoricino (arco aortico ipoplastico, un difetto del setto ventricolare e uno del setto atriale) e avrò un’altra operazione tra 6-12 mesi (per aggiustare l’arteria polmonare).

Ho anche la Sindrome Kabuki, il che significa che avrò un percorso molto diverso da quello degli altri bimbi. Molto probabilmente vedrò tanti, tanti specialisti diversi nel corso dei prossimi anni; per menzionarne qualcuno: logopedista, ortopedico, terapista occupazionale, endocrinologo, otorinolaringoiatra, fisioterapista, cardiologo, nefrologo.

Non che mamma e papà si lamentino! Sono super contenti di avermi e dicono sempre che, insieme, siamo Gli Invincibili!

Ma certamente porto un grande carico con me: il costo di visite e equipaggiamento medico, il tempo per prendersi cura di me (mangerò attraverso un tubicino naso-gastrico per un po’), gli alti e bassi di un sistema immunitario più fragile (in questo momento sono in ospedale con una bronchiolite VRS) e così via.

Staremo benone, ma se volete potete dare un contributo, per aiutarli un pochino con le sfide finanziarie della nostra nuova famiglia.

Non vi preoccupate: mi sincererò io che restino coi piedi per terra e anche attivi!
