Intensive Care Urgently Needed Psychiatric Crisis
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Anonymous.
I am here to tell the story of my brother and how he ended up in an ICU, having barely survived a suicide attempt. He was found alone on the streets in a rural town far from any of our family. We are now looking to raise money to get him into an inpatient rehabilitation program. I will call him Pete and change some details to protect his identity.
Pete was an intelligent boy with particular and passionate interests. He loved music and went on to play in the high school jazz band. He also pursued solo projects, writing songs and poetry. Pete was a gentle child who was sensitive and kind to others. He loved his pet dogs and guinea pigs and being in the outdoors. He was a committed lifelong vegetarian and an avid reader of philosophy.
Pete started to show signs of depression and debilitating inattention in his twenties. He had several starts in college life but lacked some necessary executive functioning.
Pete has had a history of being withdrawn and has suffered isolating depression in bouts. He has also been involuntarily hospitalized for psychosis several times now. In addition, he likely suffers from Anosognosia, a neurological condition in which the patient is unaware of their psychiatric illness. This has made it incredibly difficult for us to get him on board with psychiatric care.
This is why we are looking for a longer-term facility to help him begin a holistic and empathic journey back to mental health. We are currently researching options for intensive inpatient centers where he will be able to rehabilitate with counseling and group therapies.
I talked to Pete this last week in the ICU. He spoke sadly of wanting to get back to “happier times.” He wants to return to cooking family dinners. He wants to hike again in the mountains with his dog. He knows that his family loves him. Your donation could be a key piece in the puzzle of saving my brother’s life.
