Hello, I'm Elizabeth and I run a large licensed daycare called Kidz R People Too in Alameda, CA. I've been operating since 2006. I absolutely love the children and families that I serve. My self and my staff do our best to ensure that our children leave here with positive memorable experiences and the necessary tools to enter kindergarten. On the evening of November 23, 2015, myself and my employees heard a loud boom in our neighbor's unit above us. Next we heard water rushing and simeltaneously the fire alarms sounded. We gathered all of the children and their things and exited the daycare. Once outside we saw flames coming from our neighbor's unit above us. The glass shattered and the flames began to travel to our balcony. Our unit flooded from the water sprinklers and water hoses that firefighters used to put the flames out. The families we serve in daycare had to miss work until we were temporarily placed in a new unit. I lost some families because they missed work; meaning that I lost revenue. I had to reapply for a new license before running my daycare to avoid fines; meaning I lost more revenue. My renter's insurance covered a small fraction of what was lost. Repair has yet to begin in our original daycare. The cause of the fire was deemed unsolved. The liability coverage that our neighbors have is being completely absorbed by the property owners. The items that were salvaged are in a storage unit which I'm being billed for because our temporary unit is small compared to the original one. Not only was I personally affected, but the children and families I serve had to start all over in a new environment with no warning of transition. Once my original unit is complete I want to replace the items I had for my children in daycare. I love them and want them to have the best environment I can provide because they are the future. Anything helps and your help will not go unnoticed. Thank you!
