Caroline's Fight
Donation protected
This is to raise money for our sweet Caroline! A little over a month ago, we took Caroline to the ER for upper back pain. We were told by multiple doctors that she had a pulled muscle in her back, and she was placed in a neck brace. A week later, her symptoms had only gotten worse, so I asked for an MRI, and they basically brushed me off. The following week, her dad and I demanded an MRI. The MRI revealed a large tumor on her spinal cord that would require surgery for removal. Emergency surgery was scheduled, and more pictures were taken. The day of surgery, her dad and I were notified that there were more tumors on her brain—an innumerable (too many to count) amount of tiny tumors located all over her brain, including the brain stem. The surgery was a success, and the tumor was fully removed from her spinal cord, thank God! A week after the surgery, we were informed that the tumor in her spinal cord is, in fact, a rare form of spinal and brain cancer. She is currently recovering from the surgery and is still learning how to walk by herself, feed herself, write—basically everything she could do before, she now needs assistance to do. Our next steps are getting a port placed and starting chemotherapy. The goal is to keep these tiny tumors in her brain from growing, but it is very unlikely that they will ever go away, and there are too many to be surgically removed. She just turned 10 years old, and we no longer know her life expectancy. She will continue to fight this for the rest of her life. This went from a pulled muscle to any parent's worst nightmare in a month. We hate to even ask for money, but our pride is no longer an issue. At the moment, our only concern is fulfilling her wishes. We have four kids, and we are now struggling because of all the doctor's visits and hospital stays. Our goal is to raise enough money to take her and her siblings to Disney World; it is something she has always wanted to experience!
