Friends and Family – Nikki is sick. Early last year, Nikki started having memory issues as well as weakness in her legs. She had trouble walking and fell a lot. She also lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Toward the end of the year, she became bedridden. Nikki has been unable to work since mid-October. She was hospitalized in mid-December with cognitive issues as well as loss of control of her limbs. Although multiple tests have been run by medical professionals, there was no clear cause. They did find deficient levels of minerals/vitamins that they feel played a part in her condition.

Where we are now: Nikki is in a rehabilitation hospital in Bryan. They are working with her to help her gain strength and mobility in hopes she will be able to do more to help herself. She still does not have control of her limbs, and she suffers from some cognitive impairment. While Nikki does live with our mom, our mom is a senior citizen that has health issues of her own. It will be a major feat for my mom to be able to assist when Nikki is released to go home without the aid of medical equipment and support personnel.

My mom and I have been covering Nikki’s bills as best as we can, but those funds are running short. Nikki’s personal health insurance does not cover all of the medical costs. We are going to apply for Medicaid and disability for Nikki to get some additional medical and financial support. To do this, we need to hire a lawyer to obtain guardianship.

We are asking those that know and love Nikki to consider contributing to this fundraiser. Funds will go toward legal fees, medical equipment, and medical support after her release from the rehabilitation hospital.
